In the male-dominated world of insolvency and restructuring Louise Verrill achieved something special when she became the first woman President of the UK Insolvency Lawyers Association, and also the first woman and lawyer, to be elected president of the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA), the sole UK insolvency practitioner regulator.

Louise regularly represents major creditors and stakeholders both UK and internationally. She is not afraid to challenge the hierarchy of the profession and go out on a limb for clients.

She has extensive knowledge and experience of all areas of out-of-court and in-court turnaround and insolvency and capital market matters regularly operating across several jurisdictions at any time. She has been involved in many high profile assignments including Bank of Ireland, Allied Irish Bank, Anglo Irish Bank, MG Rover, TXU, Euro Tunnel, Enron, Polestar, Lehman, Northern Rock, Powerhouse, Homburg Invest II, A-TEC and now Pescanova and the Co-operative Bank Plc. She led a successful litigation challenge in relation to the UK property market which if this had not been successful could have wiped out £38 billion in value and the principle of the law of guarantee would have been destroyed, having a major impact on commercial transactions.

She has developed a wide national and international client base comprising, financial institutions, bondholders, steering committees, equity holders, ad hoc committees, insolvency practitioners, major corporations and distressed companies.

She has also built a strong reputation in the consumer product and retail work out sector including complex lease portfolio work outs. She also has extensive experience in the pension restructuring arena, acting for the Pension Protection Fund (UK Government Life Boat Scheme), corporates and pension trustees.

With regard to her international focus her restructuring assignments have included Austria, France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway, Greece, India, Iceland, Spain, Morocco, Africa, China, Far East and all of the off shore jurisdictions. Many projects relate to infrastructure particularly energy, telecoms, financial products and government projects. She is also advising on sovereign debt, regulation, asset management, impact of the EC Regulation, (COMI) issues, primary and secondary insolvency proceedings across the globe.

Brown Rudnick is the firm of choice for those seeking effective and experienced counsel in the distress arena. The combination of our experience, creativity and tenacity has resulted in an impressive track record of maximizing results for our clients who come back to us again and again because we effectively deliver value. Our innovative strategies earned us the title of Law360’s Bankruptcy Group of the Year for 2011 and the leaders of our practice group have been singled out among Turnaround and Workout’s Bankruptcy Lawyers of the Year no fewer than six times.

Aggressive and practical, our seasoned teams of fully-integrated professionals employ state-of-the-art solutions that protect and enhance our client’s position. Brown Rudnick is often called upon to represent those whose investments or going concern values are most at risk. Our lawyers typically win with strategies others either don’t imagine, won’t consider, or can’t execute. Brown Rudnick is particularly well known for its powerhouse litigation capabilities which usually motivate our adversaries to consider more efficient consensual resolutions.

We were one of the first firms to focus on the representation of hedge funds and other highly sophisticated distressed debt players. Over the past 30 years, our practice has expanded to include mixed committees of public debt holders, trade creditors, and labor interests and we are particularly adept at balancing and harmonizing their unique perspectives. We also have a highly successful track record representing debtors, asset purchasers, examiners, mediators and proposed plan sponsors. The Firm does not typically represent money centered banks and, consequently, can zealously represent our clients without conflicts of interest.

We have one of the deepest benches in the business, with more than 20 senior practitioners working with an impressive cadre of well trained and closely supervised associates and paraprofessionals. We augment our engagement teams with experienced lawyers from complimentary practices that understand bankruptcy and corporate restructuring and are able to employ their particular expertise without having to learn the ropes on our client’s dime. We pride ourselves on being able to staff our projects appropriately and bill our clients responsibly. We know how to run an efficient team effort requiring experts and other financial professionals.

From our principal offices in New York, Boston and London, Brown Rudnick handles complex cases domestically and internationally. We have amassed a particularly impressive list of successful cross-border restructurings and have assisted a growing number of clients as they navigate the complexities of investing in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Brown Rudnick, with offices in the United States and Europe, represents clients from around the world in high-stakes litigation and business transactions.

With relentless focus on our clients’ objectives, we offer a broad slate of capabilities and talents in areas that include Corporate & Transactional, Funds, Securities, Tax, Patents & Intellectual Property, Emerging Technologies, Cleantech & Energy, Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring, Finance, Complex Litigation, White Collar Defense & Government Investigations, Real Estate, Government Contracts, Health Care and Government Law & Strategies. We assemble cross-disciplinary teams to suit clients’ specific needs. And we bring our perspective and experience to an array of industries.

Our clients include public and private corporations, multinational Fortune 100 businesses and start-up enterprises. We also represent investors, as well as official and ad hoc creditors committees in today’s largest corporate restructurings, both domestically and abroad.

“Louise Verrill is recognised in the market as an active and effective practitioner, and is well regarded for her work with bondholders and distressed investors. “
